Fabulous Donations

Whitespace is the contemporary NZ gallery run by Deborah White and Ken Johnson.

Deborah was on the board that ran the Auckland Art Fair. The art fair was sold, and the charitable trust behind it had a bit of money left in the coffers. They wanted to distribute the money to organisations, involved in the arts, who do good work in the community. The trust - the VA Charitable Trust - donated money to Māpura so we could pay professional artists to visit the studio and inspire our artists with their knowledge and art practice. The artists could also teach a class.

Auckland Art Gallery Visit

On Thursday morning, June 8, artists from our Leading a Creative Life class went to see great art rather than make it.

Tutors Sarah Rankin, Alvie McKree and Sasha Iyengar accompanied the class to see the “Light from Tate: 1700s to Now” exhibition at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.

As Alvie said, “…so great to see them interacting with the exhibition and catch them in those moments of deep repose with the artwork. Divine!”

“Light from Tate” features artworks by celebrated artists across the globe from the 18th century to the present day, and is curated from collections of Tate, UK.

Spark LIVE touring Auckland August 2023.

Glass Ceiling Arts Collective’s new multisensory theatre production Spark LIVE is coming to theatre venues across Auckland in August. This new production is specifically for audiences with PMLD (Profound and multiple learning disabilities), their caregivers and whanau aged 10+ to adult.

SPARK tells the story of a teenage girl, with a heart condition isolated from the world during a pandemic as her mother tries to keep her from getting ill. Kate and her mum struggle to navigate their new normal as Kate longs to be reunited with her friends and most of all her beloved horses. Spark takes audiences on a journey of hope, love and the incredible connection between a human and their horse.

A theatre performance featuring kiwi sensation Jackie Clarke (Christmas in the Park, Once, Mamma Mia), Lily Mae Ivatt-Oakley (Down For Love) and acclaimed musician Sam Jones (Rhythm and Vines, Soundsplash). This production will wow audiences with its rich multisensory storyscape with things to touch, taste, and smell. Combining film, live music, bold staging with original songs by Sam Jones, this event is highly accessible so that audiences with PMLD can connect to the story in their own individual way.

Tickets are $10 with caregivers attending for FREE. To book your tickets please fill out the google form below.
